Thank you for entering! This contest is now closed.Winners will be notified via email by 12am MST on 12.10.10.

So the snow has been falling all across the West, which to me, means only one thing…winter is unofficially here! What does that mean to all of you? Time to gear up…and what better way to do so than starting with the basics. We are talking baselayers here, Helly Hansen baselayers to be exact. We had the chance to try two of the Helly Hansen baselayers from the HH Warm and the HH One technologies, and now we have the chance to give 4 lucky readers an HH baselayer of their own.

Now for the baselayer details, the Multi Graphic LS, HH One, retail price $45. This baselayer is a longtime favorite for me, simply a classic. For starters it is comfortable, durable, affordable and on top of the functionality, it also looks good. To get technical, the Multi Graphic (meaning TONS of print choices) is based on Lifa®T3TM hollow fiber technology. The combination of the X-Pulsion fiber and the unique Helly Hansen low bulk cuffs offers you real winter comfort.

What does all of that mean? This baselayer is super versatile.  It is fully functional in a wide array of temperatures, from red hot to sub zero conditions. This lightweight baselayer has a softer feel and looser fit and it works to move moisture rapidly away from the skin. According to Helly Hansen, this is an all-in-one baselayer to cover your all-day comfort and full year needs, and I could not agree more.

Words to describe: versatile, comfortable, and fashionable. This is my all around favorite baselayer.

Then there are the HH Warm Tops, retail price $70. The HH Warm Tops are a little more costly, although their functionality is a bit more robust. This closer fit baselayer is a must for the colder days and/or climates. The HH Warm line is perfect in temperatures as low as -22 degrees F and up to 23 degrees F, and I can attest to that. I first wore this baselayer on the mountain in Park City, Utah on Thanksgiving this year when the temp. spread was -12/5 degrees F (flipping cold!!!). Unfortunately my toes were freezing, but my core? Seriously this baselayer works – I was one toasty snowboarder.

To be even more specific, this is the best choice baselayer to stay warm in the subzero environments and here is why… It has a two layer design; first, there is the inner Lifa® fibres to ensure you stay dry in all conditions, while the outer layer, comprised of soft no itch (!!!!) Merino wool, adds warmth and comfort. This means you get extreme insulation and superior evacuation of moisture. How is that possible? Namely, it is due to the benefits of the Merino Wool which regulates your temperature through the natural wicking properties, resists odor, and is anti static (great in drier mountain climates).

Words to describe: Very warm, Merino Wool and comfortable. A cold day run, or shred sesh, this baselayer is perfect.

WIN IT!!! Now that you are a baselayer pro, check them out for yourself. They are available online, in your local retailer and right here, right now on WestboundBoarder.com. You have got it, we are giving 4 lucky readers a baselayer of their own to try on for size. Entering is easy, all you have to do is tell me (by leaving a comment on this article) where you would take your baselayer to stay warm this Winter. To the slopes? On a run? To the arctic? Get creative and leave us a comment.

Contest ends Wednesday December 8th at midnight, MST. One entry per reader, please. Winners will be selected at random using Random.org. Sizes and colors are limited.

  2. I love having the right equipment. When you have the best clothes on and stay warm and dry it makes your whole day on the mountain better.

  3. I would wear it when I come down to see my friends in UTAH in February! It’ll make learning how to snowboard a whole lot more fun if I’m not freezing the whole day. :)

  4. I Would wear it all the time to keep me warm when I am snowboarding! I could take it when I go and see my sister!:) It would be great to keep warm!
    Pick Me, Pick me:)

  5. I like how you actually used the word “attest” so that I knew you wrote this giveaway, even before I saw your name at the top :) I’d wear it up to Alaska on the slopes for some good CP 4 Life times!!! For real though, they’re super cute and my current pair of long johns I think are literally from middle school, lol…:)

  6. I’d wear it all over the great Pacific Northwest (washing it in between wears, of course;))!! I LOVE snowboarding and hiking; so my new Helly Hansen Baselayer would have an ALL-ACCESS pass to the peaks of Mt. Rainer, Crystal Mt., and Steven’s Pass…part of the beautiful “Cascade Loop”. I’d spoil it and let it hang dry (saving energy, going GREEN:)) in the cool Seattle breeze. As it dries from my balcony it would have a spectacular view of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains!

All that to say… I’d give my Baselayer a HAPPY home!

    Happy riding!

  7. Although I live in sunny Los Angeles, I could definitely use an extra warm layer to wear in Oregon when visiting this winter AND when tackling the slopes in Utah!

(You guys gave her snowboard socks last year that she wears under her Wellie boots on the boat all the time. She says thanks!)

  13. I would use a base layer to survive my first real winter. After living in Cali for my entire life, moving to a new northern city with actual seasons has been a shock!

  14. I’d wear it everywhere! It gets awfully cold in Colorado!

  15. I’d use it when I go winter biking! It can be pretty brutal here in Minnesota this time of year.

  30. I would wear it while walking my snow-loving Scottie this winter!

  31. This would be the ideal baselayer for my wife. She never seems to warm up on the slopes and this quality layer would make a perfect addition to her winter wardrobe. she is also a great promoter so she could suggest it to many people. Thank you

  32. I’ve always wanted to go to Alaska to watch the Iditarod Race!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. I would wear it to keep me warm when I am snow sledding.

  34. I would love to have, I am always cold! Great way to keep warm!

  35. I would wear it next to my friend, slot, while he wears his (women’s) tank top. This way he won’t feel so bad about wearing women’s clothes. And considering he lost so much weight and I keep gaining it the long sleeve vs no-sleeve would be a perfect balance showing off his skinny arms while hiding my flab. I would definitely wear this to the mountain, but also on those cold winter steelheading trips. It’s not like anyone cares what you look like while you’re fishing and the extra room through the chest would help accommodate my ever increasing bust size. I would take this to Whistler when we have a reunion tour (hopefully in the next couple years), although there’s no telling if it would stay on since it’s hard to control a black-out Walt…

  36. I would wear it on snowy days

  37. Outdoor ice skating!

  38. I would take this on a jog with my Great Dane, Sappie :)

  39. Been wearing Helly Hanson under layers for many years of riding. They seem to be the best when it comes to keeping warm. Thanks HH.

  40. I live in Denver so I would take my baselayers up the hill to Breckenridge for skiing! :)

  41. Great post. I was checking constantly this blog and I am impressed! Very useful info specially the last part :) I care for such info a lot. I was looking for this particular info for a long time. Thank you and best of luck.

  42. I just love your items and would love to win. I just don’t care for being cold….so keep me warm, please. Hugs

  43. I would take it straight to Michigan to snowmobile. The ultimate test. God Bless!
