Years ago, her high school snowboard coach awarded her the “tough as nails award” for being the toughest women on team (an award she won 3 years running)… though looking at her you’d never guess. Her first time standing on a snowboard was at the age of 12, and she’s been hooked ever since. Since then, she’s tried just about everything that involves a board – wake, snow, skate; you name it, she loves it. She spent the past several years working in communications and online marketing, but she finally decided to give up her real world job and head to the East Coast to get her MBA. She also has a degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon, and absolutely loves to write and tell stories through multi-platform media channels. She now lives part-time in DC, part-time in LA, snowboards and travels as often as she can (while blogging about it) and works in sports and entertainment. In the words of Andrea (you can call her ‘Dre’) – ‘Yes, you CAN teach yourself to surf online – YouTube!’

Danielle Marie Helberg – EditorThe first time she tried snowboarding she vowed she would never do it again.Cursed with an optical sunburn (and needless to say) she hated snowboarding because of it. Thankfully her big brother made her go again, and since then snowboarding has sculpted her life for the best. Through snowboard team competitions in high school with Andrea and Windells snowboard camps in the summertime, Danielle quickly developed an intense love and need for all board sports. Snowboarding has brought her and her high school sweetheart together and has taught the native Oregonian how to embrace and appreciate the constant Oregon rain…until she moved to Utah to experience the greatest snow on earth. She works hard all week as an accountant in Downtown Salt Lake City so she can afford to snowboard all weekend long, wherever in the West her board may take her…

Growing up in the Pac NW, Rochelle was always drawn to nature, hiking and being outside – which is why it is no surprise that with her first snowboard and old Vans boots, it was love at first tracks. Ever since she fell in love with the sport she has been living and breathing it. She works so she can afford to snowboard and snowboards to get her through her double shifts at the hospital. To say the least, this girl is dedicated. We could all stand to learn a little bit from this chick. Rochelle has mastered the work-life balance that all snowboarders simply dream of. While she is a CNA II on the weekends and a super star boarder during the week, Rochelle is able to beat the weekend warriors and get fresh tracks most every day! On top of the passion she has also got the skill! So sit back and enjoy her story, blogs and humor, because Baker is going to bring it to Westbound Boarder!!…———–————————————————————————————————————————–
Jim Callas – Contributing Writer
With a borrowed pair of lace up boots and cable bindings on his skis, Jim began riding the Lake Oswego Junior High ski bus up to Multorpor/Ski Bowl back in 1972. He knew right away that this was exactly where he needed to be! Always being a huge fan of everything snow, Jim loved the novel concept that he could actually get a ride up the mountain rather than hiking up to schuss down. Now, after all these years, Jim’s passion for snow sports hasn’t diminished at all. If anything, it’s intensified. After learning to snowboard a few years back he also enjoys that form of riding from time to time but his love of skiing remains his mainstay on the mountain. In addition to the mountain sports, Jim also loves flyfishing, tennis, bike riding, skimboarding and backpacking.
