September 12th, 2011BoardaliciousMy overall impression of the Salt Lake Dew Tour was awesome. I witnessed crazy people, young and old throwing themselves through the air in a variety of sports. Truly amazing talent on display. The Dew Tour does a great job of keeping each day different and interesting and the village has stuff for everyone to get involved (food, beer, sponsor booths, local booths, skate demos, the list goes on!).
The one and only bummer of the whole even was the female involvement of the Summer Dew Tour. Ladies were definitely well represented in the crowd and at least half of the staff running the event were women. However, the glaring lack of women was amongst the competitors. We need to get girls more involved in these summer sports for sure! They are killing it in the snowboard world but not in the skate or BMX, at least for the Dew Tour.
The Salt Lake Dew Tour was a great event and so glad it happened in this town. We tip our hat again to the state of Utah for being the only place that hosts a stop of the Winter and Summer Dew Tours. See you at Snowbasin this Feb. for the Winter Dew out of Snowbasin Ski Resort in Utah.

September 9th, 2011BoardaliciousDay 2 of the SLC Dew Tour did not disappoint. BMX Semis went down on the dirt and in the vert. Before the street skate semi finals. These guys continue to amaze. Salt Lake also provided two locals to compete in the contest. A standout rider for me was Milton Martinez because of his creativity using obstacles throughout the course that others just passed by. He also climbed into the stands and dropped into a ramp from about 10 feet above. The Jam session is definitely the best format for this event. Jam session style is how skating happens in the real world and its great to watch these guys feed of each other.
The most exciting event of the night was definitely the FMX Speed and Style contest. Four guys at a time would race through a course with one huge ramp for four laps. The competitors got points for the place they finished and style from judges. It was incredible to see these guys fly through the air of downtown Salt Lake City.
After the FMX guys wrapped up their event the crowd migrated around the course to the stage to watch a band from SLC perform. The Used put on a great show and put a great cap on the events of the day.
Tomorrow is day to see the big names in Skate Vert and the BMX guys hit the dirt for the Big Air Event. More to come. . .

September 8th, 2011BMX, Competitions, SkateboardingThe first night and Dew Tour SLC qualifiers are officially a wrap, and what a night it was. It is always pretty chill to sit back and watch the qualifiers and it was a great showing for the Last Chance Events which is the athletes final opportunity to progress to the events of the next 3 days. We watched BMX dirt jumping at an awesome outdoor track, BMX Vert, and 4 amazing Street Skate Jam sessions. The Street Skate especially was a great event with incredible talent. The Finals for this event will surely be a show to see as these qualifiers proved there is a lot to look forward to. Stay tuned for more. . . .hope to see you there!

February 15th, 2011Boardalicious, Competitions, EventsWe were able to show face at both the Breckenridge and Ogden Winter Dew Tours this year and had a blast. Check out a few of my favorite pics from the extravaganza:

December 19th, 2010Competitions, Events, News, SnowboardingToday was the last day of the first Winter Dew Tour stop here in Breckenridge, Colorado, and with nearly 2 feet of fresh pow blanketing the slopes, it was a nice way to end the four-day-long tour. Norway’s Torstein Horgmo took first on the men’s side with a score of 96.50. His winning run included a frontside noseblunt slide to fakie, a switch frontside double cork 10 and a switch backside 9.
Taking first place in the women’s heat and defending her Dew Tour Championship title was Tahoe’s own Jamie Anderson. This was her fifth first place Dew Tour finish, which she snabbed with a score of 93.00 and a run that included a back 180, switch back 180, fifty-fifty, back 3 and a corked front 3.
The full snowboard slopestyle results are below. Overall, it’s been a great four days, but man am I ready to shred the slopes! So tomorrow, it’s Keystone for me!

December 18th, 2010Competitions, Events, News, SnowboardingI’m out here in Breckenridge, Colorado again for the third day of the first Winter Dew Tour Stop, the Nike 6.0 Open. With prelim rounds behind us, today riders prepped for the men’s and women’s ski and snowboard halfpipe finals. Unlike yesterday’s sunshine, though, today’s weather blanketed the pipe with snow, which threw competitors for a loop and slowed them down considerably.
Louie Vito ended up winning the men’s pipe finals with a score of 90.25, and considering the second place male, Matt Ladley, finished with a 75, I’d say Louie stomped it. His winning set included a front double ten, cab double ten and a crippler (no double corks, Louie?) You can tell just by looking at the scores that the conditions threw several riders off. Olympic bronze medalist Scotty Lago, for example, finished with a best score of only 14.
On the women’s side, Spain’s Queralt Castellet took first place, with Elena Hight following right behind. I’m surprised Kelly Clark, who took sixth in the finals, didn’t end up finishing with a higher score, especially since she took first in the prelims, followed by Elena Hight.
Despite the heavy snow that slowed down the pipe, today’s event was a success, and riders continued to push the boundaries with stylish tricks and good momentum.
Check out the full halfpipe finals results below, and tune in tomorrow for slopestyle.
